********IMPORTANT Y6 DATES***********

SATS WEEK    13th - 16th May 2024

LONDON RESIDENTIAL  24th  - 26th June 2024

Hello lovely children in Zennor!

Welcome to the Summer Term everyone!

Our topics this term are linked to China. In history we will be learning about the Shang Dynasty ,and in geography we will be taking a more modern approach and looking at how China has become such a huge industrial power. Our art lessons will also be linked to traditional and modern Chinese artists as we experiment with brushes and ink, birds and blossoms and more modern interpretations of nature.

In science we will look at how to classify living things, including microorganisms, and learn more about the damage fossil fuels do to our environment.

In RE we will continue our focus on humanism , and recap our knowledge of the Sikhi faith before we visit the Gurdwara as part of our London visit. In PE we will hone our batting and fielding skills for the end of term rounders match versus the teachers, and polish our athletics skills of jumping and relay changeovers.

In maths we will continue our journey towards the SATs in May recapping and reviewing KS2 knowledge and skills. We are starting with statistics and calculating averages.

A large proportion of this term will be spent in preparation for Y7, including transition visits to our secondary schools and learning more about life there. We will also perform our end of year play as a celebration of our time at St Uny.

Miss Stockle and I look forward to a term of fun and learning, and we both hope you have had a restful two weeks enjoying time with your families.

READING AT HOME IS SO IMPORTANT - PLEASE BUILD IT INTO YOUR ROUTINE

Stuck for what to read? Try some of these recommended reads for Y6. Remember that our local library is a great place to try out books before you buy - and they will order books in for you to try too.

If you would like more information about why reading at home is so important please follow the link below or read the attached DFE study.

Please see the document below that gives you ideas of how to help your child when they read with you at home - it contains useful sentence stems that will help you when you ask questions.

Homework -
At St Uny Church of England Academy, we believe homework is anything children do outside of the normal school day that contributes to their learning, in response to guidance from the school. Homework encompasses a whole variety of activities instigated by teachers and parents/carers to support the children's learning. There is a link to our Chilli Challenge homework grid on this class page.
